During these freezing cold days, I’m so grateful for my nice cozy studio located in downtown Loveland. Taking pictures outside this time of year is just not in the cards for me. I’m a lot like a small child when I get cold; it’s all I can focus on and there is no fun to be found. The studio has a variety of sets, is temperature-controlled, has space for outfit changes, and places to relax when you aren’t in the photos. I offer newborn and milestone sessions here year-round (where mom and dad are always welcome to hop in for a couple of images!) and special motherhood and holiday sessions. The biggest question I get for any session though is what should we wear??
The first step is to take a deep breath! It’s actually pretty easy to pull outfits together for photos that look and feel great. I always start by looking in our closets. If there’s something I love wearing I build the wardrobe around that! My outfit is usually the first to be chosen in our family because I’m the pickiest ;). The general rule is to choose a color palette and then build from there with textures and patterns. For studio portraits, I suggest more muted tones and neutrals. You want to coordinate but not “match”. Don’t put any two people in the same outfit! You are all individuals and the love between you will show that you are a family, not the matching t-shirt ;).
A few more rules of thumb for studio portraits:
The studio is also stocked with a few items if you are really having a hard time finding something you love! Shoot me an email and I’ll share what I’ve got in the sizes you need <3 .
