I so often see families in front of my camera in the newborn to toddler stage for family photos. In those days, your kids are changing so quickly and you can see the growth in the day by day. Those yearly photos seem to fall off for a lot of families once everyone is in school full time and running from activity to activity though! I love photographing kids who are a little bit older though!
I met this family when they came for an extended family session the previous year. My extended family sessions always feel like a whirlwind trying to grab every combination of family members. It was fun to be able to get to know each of the kids personalities a little bit for this session. Taking kids aside, 1 by 1, for portraits is always one of my favorite moments in each session. To me, family photos should show who you are as a family and each of the relationships and personalities that make up the whole.
And just because your kids are older, don’t think we won’t be running races and playing games in your session! Photos of mom and dad alone are also a must!!
Family photos are so important for kids of all ages. Before you know it, these kiddos will be headed off to high school and then college!
