When you are having a baby it’s like there’s this whole world out there that you never even knew existed. Throughout your pregnancy you are researching car seats and cribs, sleep training and mommy and me classes. You suddenly realize how fast time is moving and know it will just feel faster once your baby arrives. You start thinking about how you’ll remember this phase and that’s probably how you’ve ended up researching newborn photography. Photographing your baby is such a special thing and I am so honored to get to document the newborn phase for my clients! I know you have many options when you are looking for the perfect session for you and that brings up lots questions! These are the questions that come up most often from parent’s looking to document those first day’s of life with a new baby. Have a question that’s not listed here? Put it in the comments below or email here!
Newborn sessions take place in my Loveland studio located at 407 N Lincoln Ave Suite 104/105. It’s best for the baby to come before 2 weeks old, but if you have missed this window, please do not hesitate to contact me to see what we can do! Younger babies tend to sleep better and be more flexible for the traditional newborn poses.
The studio is fully stocked with all kinds of props, hats, headbands and even little outfits. Traditional newborn sized clothing and accessories are often big on brand new babies. Everything in the studio is specially made to fit your little one in their first few days of life. I am absolutely happy to include any special items, like a lovey or quilt from grandma, please just let me know what you are bringing ahead of time so that I may prepare properly. I also keep the changing table fully stocked, so really all you need to bring is the baby <3
Just yourself! We keep snacks, coffee and water in the studio. Dress in layers as the studio gets pretty warm to keep baby comfortable! We will do any family portraits at the beginning of the session so that you are looking fresh and not too “glowy” 😉
Yes absolutely!! I love capturing your family with the newest member! We will take pictures of mom with baby, dad with baby, siblings with baby, and everyone together. I recommend neutrals typically but you can also match your wardrobe to your home decor if you plan to hang your portrait in your home! I’m happy to consult with you before your session on what looks best.
You’ll receive full prep instructions before your session to help make sure baby is nice and sleepy. You’ll feed baby upon arrival at the studio or just before leaving home, and then we will get started with family and sibling images. I take this feeding time as an opportunity to bond with older siblings and make them feel special. I’m very go with the flow, and if a sibling isn’t feeling it right away, we start with parents. When we’ve completed this portion of the session, your job is to relax! I’ve got comfy seating and even a bed in the studio. You can watch some Netflix, have a snack and a cup of coffee, or even take a little nap! (Parents fall asleep often! It’s the best!!) I’ll let you know if baby is in need of some milk or a cuddle from you, otherwise, I’ll take care of everything. I may ask you to help for just a minute with some of the trickier poses that call for an extra set of hands but otherwise, you are off duty! There’s a play area for siblings or you can pop on some cartoons for them 🙂
After the session, I’ll go through each of the images and narrow down your gallery to the very best. I’ll do minor color corrections and crops on these images and then you’ll receive the proofs in an online gallery within a week of the session. From there you’ll have 5 days to choose your favorites to purchase. I’ll edit those fully, smoothing skin, fixing backdrops, getting rid of any blemishes or dark under-eye circles. Your final gallery will be ready within 2 weeks of your selection. I do offer professional prints, canvases and albums and those are available for purchase from your final gallery. If you know you’d like announcements ahead of time, we can get those out to you ASAP so that you may get them delivered to friends and family right away!
It’s best to schedule your session during your second trimester. I only take a few newborn clients a month because babies like to make their appearance whenever they are ready! I block off your due date in my schedule to ensure we have the flexibility to fit you in. Typically, newborn sessions take place at 9:30 or 10 am on a weekday. Please let me know in advance if you will require weekend availability.
